Chinyalisaur sits on the Bhagirathi and has the district's airstrip.
Chinyalisaur is a development block of Uttarkashi district, in the Garhwal division. Both the Ganga and the Yamuna rise in this district, and Uttarkashi on the Bhagirathi is called 'the Kashi of the north' for its Vishwanath temple.
